Extreme Freezing Rain Disruptions
Due to the extreme freezing rain over the weekend, some customers may experience unexpected outages, either hydro one related or from the build up of ice on radio antennas. Unfortunately either scenario is beyond our control and therefore we are unable to provide an ETA for service restoration to those affected by the weather. Hydro one is posting timeframes for electricity restoration on their storm centre outage map ( https://www.hydroone.com/power-outages-and-safety/stormcentre-outage-map ). We apologize for any inconvenience but appreciate your patience.
Hydro Ones latest general update on the situation:
“Crews are out in full force, working alongside our contractors through challenging conditions to restore power to customers. More than 257,000 customers have been restored since the start of the storm. Outages continue to be caused by tree limbs and branches being weighed down from the accumulation of freezing rain. A second round of freezing rain is expected and may continue to impact power lines and road conditions. At this time, we anticipate it will take several days to restore all customers. We won’t stop until every customer is restored.
Due to changing conditions from this storm, you may get multiple text updates as we work to safely restore your power and do our best to keep you informed.
Hydro One prioritizes restoration in a way that brings power back to the greatest number of customers in the shortest period of time. Crews need to repair and rebuild main lines along with other key pieces of electricity infrastructure before repairs can be made to power lines that serve smaller numbers of customers.
Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235. “
